Posh operates as a marketplace platform that enables organizers to sell tickets globally. Because of this structure, we are legally required to issue Form 1099-K to eligible creators through our primary payment processing partner, Stripe.
A 1099-K is an official federal tax document used to report payment card and third-party network transactions directly to the IRS and relevant state authorities.
💡 Posh does not issue W-2s, paystubs, or employer financial documents. Organizers are independent sellers on the Posh marketplace — not Posh employees — so standard employment tax forms do not apply. For tax reporting, Stripe (Posh’s payment processor) issues Form 1099-K to eligible organizers when the federal thresholds below are met.
Federal Reporting Thresholds
You will automatically receive a 1099-K form if your account satisfies all of these criteria in a single calendar year:
Taxpayer Status: You are based in the US or file taxes as a US taxpayer.
Gross Volume: Your account processes more than $20,000 in total gross sales volume.
Transaction Count: Your account processes more than 200 individual transactions (tickets or tables).
Standard Tax Filing Timeline (Tax Year 2025)
Your tax documents move through a fixed annual delivery schedule. For your Tax Year 2025 earnings, the distribution and filing deadlines in 2026 are as follows:
Early November: Stripe emails the account owner with secure digital e-delivery consent instructions.
January 31: Statutory deadline for 1099-K issuance. Physical copies are mailed if e-delivery is declined (allow 10 additional business days for USPS delivery).
Mid-February: Hard deadline for identity updates to automatically sync onto active tax drafts for the previous calendar year.
April 15: Official IRS federal filing deadline.
Updating Corporate Identity Details (SSN vs. EIN)
If your brand's legal structure changes mid-year, updates require manual compliance vetting:
Individual to Corporate (LLC): Reach out to support via chat or email with your official IRS SS-4 confirmation document to update your underlying Stripe framework.
⚠️ Amendment Deadline: While you can update dashboard profile entity details year-round, formal 1099-K corrections or amendments for a previous tax year must be finalized by April 15.
Single-Member LLCs (SSN vs. EIN)
For single-member LLCs (Disregarded Entities), IRS protocol requires the owner’s SSN to serve as the primary tax identifier on the 1099-K rather than the business EIN. Posh can file an amendment to reflect an EIN upon explicit request, but we highly recommend consulting your CPA first.
Reconciling Refunds and Customer Disputes
Matching bank statements to tax forms often causes confusion due to specific processing rules:
⚠️ Critical IRS Accounting Rule: Stripe is legally mandated to report your gross processing volume. This means full refunds, partial refunds, and chargeback disputes are never deducted from your 1099-K total. Because this figure reflects every raw dollar processed at checkout, you must work with your accountant to manually deduct refunds and disputes as business expenses on your standard tax return.
Managing Multiple Organizations
If you operate multiple distinct event brands, their tax files cannot be consolidated:
Isolated Accounts: Each unique dashboard organization profile is provisioned with its own completely independent Stripe account.
No Merging: Each entity receives its own distinct 1099-K form. Financial reports cannot be combined or nested, even if owned by the same parent person or LLC.
Troubleshooting Missing Forms
If your metrics show you crossed the federal thresholds but you cannot locate your paperwork, execute these checks:
Check Inboxes: Search primary and spam folders for a message titled "Your Posh 1099 tax form is ready" sent directly via Stripe.
Verify Workspace Setup: Confirm details with business partners, co-promoters, or legacy team members who may have managed the initial banking configuration.
Contact Support: If you verified that your volume crossed the thresholds but no form is found, contact Posh Support immediately to open a formal compliance tracer with Stripe.
