FAQs
Q: I'm new here. What exactly ... are 1099 forms?
A: 1099 forms are federal income tax information forms used to report earnings and proceeds other than wages, salaries, and tips (which are reported on the federal W-2 form). The forms are filed with the US Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and, if required, state tax departments.
Q: I signed up for Posh as an individual, but I now have an entity (i.e. LLC, company, corporation). How can I change my 1099 form?
A: Our Support Team will have to adjust your account on Stripe manually. Simply write into our team via Chat or Email along with your SS-4 document and we can make this change for you and re-issue your 1099 form.
Note: while we can change the business type year-round, we will only be able to amend 1099 forms until the tax deadline of April 15.
Q: How does state filing work?
A: Filing requirements for some states might differ from federal requirements. Breakdown of state requirements can be found here
Q: My organization is a single-member LLC, why does the 1099 form include my Social Security Number (SSN) instead of my EIN number?
A: This is expected! The IRS expects to see an SSN provided on 1099 forms for Single Person Entities (SPEs).
Q: Why didn't I receive a 1099 form?
A: First, check your inbox and spam folders for email with this subject line, "Get your Posh 2025 tax forms faster by enabling e-delivery".
Note: make sure you check with your colleagues who may have set up your Posh account.
If still nothing, double-check that your account meet the requirements explained above.
If you meet the requirements and still do not see the email, reach out to our Support Team to further investigate.
Q: How are refunds / disputes factored into the overall income reported on 1099 forms?
A: Stripe is required to report total gross volume (source); thus, Stripe cannot change amounts on 1099 forms. Per IRS regulations, both full and partial refunds are not deducted from the gross volume.
Only the Name, Address and TIN (SSN or EIN) can be updated on a 1099 tax form.
Since neither Posh nor Stripe can directly assist in this process, we recommend that you consult your accountant or tax advisor for help.
